Folsom Dam Spillway Backfill
Suluutaaq, Inc was a subcontractor on the Joint Federal Project (JFP), a $900 million project involving the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and Bureau of Reclamation (BOR). The project consists of constructing a new concrete spillway for Folsom Reservoir. Suulutaaq’s role in this endeavor was to supply and install a heel drain and wall backfill material behind the 32-foot high upper chute walls. Suulutaaq also installed drainage piping and structures and constructed and paved access roads.

Suulutaaq created an innovative method to install the heel drain and wall backfill rock in a confined isolated area. By utilizing a rock placer and conveyor system the production rate and schedule were greatly accelerated compared to conventional means. The project finished ahead of schedule.
